Richard Ansdell was born in Liverpool. A highly successful artist, Ansdell was considered one of the finest animal artists of the century. His work pays great attention to the anatomy and texture of his subjects. He spent much of his time at his lodge on Loch Laggan in the Scottish Highlands where he was an avid sportsman. Ansdell was a member and for fifteen years the President of the Liverpool Academy. He exhibited nearly one hundred fifty paintings at the Royal Academy. |
