Percy Earl was the son of artist George Earl (from his second marriage) and younger half-brother of famed painter Maude Earl. While he was best known for his paintings of horses and dogs, he also painted landscapes. Earl was commissioned to paint many wonderful dog portraits. He captured his subjects by featuring them in profile against vague outdoor backgrounds — bringing detail to the face of each prized dog.
