Unknown, 19th Century-
We know very little about the artist known as B. Cooper other than that he or she has a wonderful style very different from the other artists featured in our collection. We do know that the painting Three Terriers in a Landscape probably dates back over a hundred and fifty years telling from the hard-coated terriers it depicts. Their undocked tails were preferred by sportsmen at the time in order to pull them out of the earth dens where they pursued their prey. Cooper’s rather animated style and strong brush strokes give the work a sense of depth and movement.
